Student Forum

Intermediate Unit 1 conducts a Student Forum, which has three major responsibilities:

  • To bring together student leaders from the IU1 Region to discuss leadership topics, school-related issues, post-secondary planning, and service learning
  • To serve as a collaborative learning environment for issues, ideas, opportunities, questions, and concerns of the students in our individual districts
  • To provide interaction among the local school districts’ student bodies through the coordination of the forum meetings

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month from 9:00 am–11:00 am at the IU Central Office, unless otherwise indicated. Districts are represented at each meeting by their high school student council officers. The Student Forum officers are elected each spring for the following year. They meet regularly to plan, schedule, and prepare to execute monthly meetings.

Recent topics and activities have included:

  • Service Learning

  • Videoconferencing with Schools in Pittsburgh, Korea, and Greece
  • Exploring Stereotyping, Prejudice, and Racism
