Uniontown Area School District

Uniontown Area School District, one of Pennsylvania’s largest geographic districts, boasts a proud history and an active, student-centered environment. Uniontown Area High School has evolved significantly over the years, with major renovations in 1954 and 1979 that helped shape the modern campus. When you enter the building, you’re immediately met by a celebration of its legacy: a Hall of Fame featuring distinguished alumni, awards, and banners that showcase decades of achievement. Adding a fun, distinctive touch is Sign-O-Saurus, a brightly painted dinosaur from the 2003 Dinomite Days public art project hosted by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the City of Pittsburgh. Uniontown’s dinosaur carries a humorous theme, warning motorists of the chaos of Pittsburgh’s complex road systems, while also symbolizing the “beast” that rises in people faced with information overload—and the inevitable fate of the dinosaurs.

Inside, entrepreneurship is thriving thanks to the Espresso Yourself Café, a student-run coffee and hot chocolate shop that has been a staple since 2012. Operated by the entrepreneurial class, the café teaches students about personal finance, investing, and business management, with help from local banks and guest speakers. Students even design new T-shirts for the café each year, blending creative marketing with hands-on business experience.

Creativity shines across the district, especially in the arts. Uniontown’s art students have participated in large-scale initiatives like PennDOT’s Paint the Plow program and have earned impressive accolades at both the Scholastic Art Awards and the American Vision Awards. These honors recognize the top young artists at the regional and national levels, celebrating outstanding creativity, technique, and vision.

The school's rich media history continues through their digital media program, now housed in the John Gismondi Center for the Media Arts. Funded through a generous donation from John P. Gismondi, a successful Uniontown alumnus and attorney, the center offers students state-of-the-art tools to learn video production, graphic design, online publishing, social media management, and more. It builds on Uniontown’s newspaper tradition, which began in the 1930s, and prepares students for careers in the evolving digital landscape.

Uniontown students are also making their mark outside of traditional academics. The Uniontown 5 Stand Clay Shooting Team captured the state championship this year, finishing first in their 1A Conference among 14 teams. Several team members also placed at the top individually at the state and even national levels. The Trap Shooting Team likewise earned strong placements across the conference, further showcasing Uniontown’s excellence in a wide variety of pursuits.

Meanwhile, the Uniontown Cyber Academy provides students from kindergarten through 12th grade with flexible, high-quality learning opportunities. Younger students benefit from a dedicated cyber teacher, while older students are fully integrated into classroom instruction through live connections. Seamless transitions between in-person and cyber learning, along with easy access to needed materials, have helped make the program a true success for students who require an alternative to traditional schooling.

From its rich traditions to its forward-thinking initiatives, Uniontown Area School District offers students a dynamic environment to learn, grow, and achieve, while remaining committed to providing meaningful opportunities for every student to succeed.
