IU1 kicked off the 2025 In-Service General Session with a day full of energy, connection, and professional growth. The morning began with awards and two inspiring special speakers—both of whom were once IU1 students. One speaker was a graduate of IU1’s Adult Education program, while the other had been part of the School Age program, each sharing their personal journeys and the impact IU1 had on their lives. Their stories set the stage for an uplifting day, reminding everyone of the lasting difference educators can make.
The momentum continued with a keynote presentation by Sarah Johnson titled Affirmed in Purpose: Keep Passion Alive. Sarah challenged attendees to reflect on what brought them into the building that day and what motivates them to continue serving their learning communities as educators. In a world full of distractions and challenges that can dampen one’s sense of purpose, she reminded us of the importance of staying rooted in why we chose this profession. Participants left the session with renewed passion, a personal mission, practical strategies for the year ahead, and a plan to lead with courage and purpose.
After lunch, attendees had the opportunity to choose from a wide range of breakout sessions designed to provide both professional and personal enrichment. Topics included mental health, retirement planning, graphic design, and generative AI, as well as Microsoft OneDrive, assistive technology, and crimes against children. These sessions offered valuable tools, resources, and insights that educators can take back to their classrooms and work environments to better serve students and communities.
The day concluded with everyone reconvening in the auditorium for a lively True/False IT game that put tech knowledge to the test, followed by exciting raffle prizes. It was a day that not only celebrated the dedication of IU1’s educators and staff but also equipped them with fresh ideas and renewed motivation. We wish everyone a successful, inspiring, and purpose-filled school year ahead!
