Frazier School District

Frazier School District is dedicated to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and creatively. With a commitment to innovation and hands-on education, the district provides opportunities that encourage exploration, critical thinking, and personal growth. From cutting-edge STEM programs to unique wellness initiatives, Frazier ensures that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the future.

The Frederick L. Smeigh Learning Center, constructed in 2015, houses both the middle and elementary schools under one roof. The middle school buzzes with activity, particularly in the Project Lead The Way classes. In the Flight and Space unit, sixth graders immerse themselves in the fundamentals of aerospace by constructing hot air balloons from tissue paper. The hot air balloons were tested, and students enjoyed seeing their projects come to life. Through this hands-on experience, they learned about the basic scientific principle of convection—warmer air rises due to its lower density compared to cooler air, allowing the balloon to float. Essentially, the project demonstrated how hot air is less dense than cool air and can lift an object when trapped inside a container like a balloon. This engaging lesson brought aerospace concepts into a tangible, exciting experiment.

Teachers at Frazier also utilize outdoor classrooms when weather permits, providing dynamic learning environments. Additionally, outdoor luncheons are organized leading up to special events to build student excitement. The "Chill Room," initially funded by the Belle Vernon Rotary Club, offers a serene space filled with sensory and stress-relief items, quiet activities, and calming lights, supporting students' mental well-being. Since its creation, it has continued to grow, thanks to generous contributions from local donors and community support.

The outdoor playground is designed to accommodate both elementary and middle school students, featuring various playsets, a rock wall, and shaded seating areas. The district also offers a pre-K program with morning and afternoon sessions, where young learners engage in arts and crafts, block building, and other enriching activities.

At the high school, students in the Graphic Communications class are putting their skills to work by creating custom t-shirts for the IU1 Student Forum Kickball Tournament, an event that supports veterans. This real-world project allows students to apply design and production techniques while contributing to a meaningful cause.

In the Robotics class, the BotsIQ team continues to showcase its technical expertise. Students recently competed at the Keystone Oaks Vex High Stakes Competition, where they spent months engineering, building, programming, and testing their robot. The competition required participants to pick up plastic rings and place them on ring holders to score points, emphasizing precision and strategic problem-solving.

Frazier School District seamlessly blends traditional values with innovative educational practices, creating a nurturing environment that encourages academic excellence and personal growth. With a strong sense of community and a dedication to student success, the district continues to evolve, providing opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and a passion for lifelong learning.
