Secondary Transition
A student’s transitional movement from high school to the post-secondary setting is a critical process in which various groups, organizations, and Local Education Agencies (LEA) work together with the student and his/her family to achieve successful outcomes in the areas of education and training; employment; and independent living. The Secondary Transition Trainer and Consultant’s (TaC) mission is to carry out the initiatives issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and the Bureau of Special Education (BSE), in concert with the Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network (PaTTAN), via field-based training, technical assistance, guided practice, collaborative consultation, and the application of research-based strategies and best educational practices to provide appropriate services to meet the needs of all students and their families. Those needs are met through the provision of trainings and learning opportunities in the area of transition to parents/guardians; teachers; aides; administrators; and others, who in turn, help our youth develop a transitional framework upon which post-secondary goals are written within the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and then implemented via educational services and activities. In addition, the Secondary Transition TaC conducts county council meetings as a means to bring together members of groups, organizations, and LEAs with the intention of exchanging ideas and information regarding secondary transitional programs that benefit our youth.
