2018 Annual Intermediate Unit 1 Academic Competition

Intermediate Unit 1 held its annual Academic Competition on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Waynesburg University in Greene County, PA.

Carmichaels High School wins the 24th Annual IU1 Academic Competition.

Four high schools competed for the title including Bethlehem-Center, Carmichaels, Chartiers-Houston and Connellsville. Throughout the day the teams kept the matches close in score however Carmichaels Senior High School came out on top and won the 24th Annual IU1 Academic Competition!

With the victory, Carmichaels will move on to the Pennsylvania State Academic Competition on Friday, April 27, 2018 in the chambers of the state House of Representatives in Harrisburg, hosted by State Representative John Lawrence and sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Led by team captain Adam Donaldson, Carmichaels won all three of their matches, with the final match going into overtime in an exciting finish with Connellsville. The winning Carmichaels team includes Coach John Hess, and team members Adam Donaldson, Ryan Swartz, Pilar Randolph, Stephen Zacoi, Katelyn Sinn and Joe Kurincak.
