Science Matters

Science Matters, launched in 1996, was designed to change the way science is taught and learned. The program provides nationally endorsed curriculum modules, teacher training, classroom follow-up, and kit refurbishment to support K-8 inquiry science. In a program evaluation conducted by the LRDC at the University of Pittsburgh, Science Matters fifth graders paralleled the performance of national and international seventh graders on challenging items. The program, with administrative offices at Washington & Jefferson College and module refurbishing at Clark School, has expanded its services to include curriculum audits and alignment, on-site customized training, K-12 Leadership Institutes and additional courses in content and pedagogy.
