IU1 Inservice 2009–2010
The start of a new school year is soon to be upon us. As you were previously notified, inservice has been scheduled for August 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, and 18, 2009, from 8:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m. at various locations. Paraprofessionals start on August 11, 2009, and professionals start on August 12, 2009.
Attendance is mandatory and will enable all professional staff to fulfill three (3) or their six (6) contractual inservice days, center-based staff to fulfill four (4) contractual inservice days, and paraprofessional staff to fulfill all six (6) days of inservice. Inservice will allow the paraprofessional staff to fulfill the necessary 20 hours of professional development as required by IDEA 2004 and Chapter 14. As a reminder, current professional and paraprofessional staff contracts include 180 instructional days and six (6) inservice days for the 2009–2010 school year.
Attendance is required for all IU1 staff in the Central Office and service offices on Day 4 of inservice (General Session), August 14, 2009. PaTTAN staff is invited and welcome to attend.
Inservice marks the beginning of the work year. All staff is expected to report on time. Appropriate attire is required for inservice. Shorts, jeans, sweatpants, tank tops, or flip-flops are not considered appropriate attire and therefore are not permitted.
Professional Staff (School-Age)
Professional staff assigned to programs located in school districts are required to participate in the first inservice day in the district to which they are assigned and the two remaining days will be for IEP-related activities.
For the IU Educational Campus professional staff at Clark, Colonial, East Franklin, Laboratory, Penn Pitt, and the Washington Partial Program, the fourth inservice day has been scheduled at either the Laboratory Campus or Colonial Campus and the remaining two days will be for IEP-related activities.
Early Intervention Professional Staff will attend inservice on August 12, 13, and 14, 2009. Mrs. Rothermel, Program Supervisor, will schedule the remaining three (3) days throughout the 2009–2010 school year. Early Intervention paraprofessionals will attend inservice on August 11, 12, 13, and 14, 2009. Early Intervention paraprofessionals assigned to Fayette Head Start will attend all six (6) days unless their classroom is in session.
Registration
Please review the Team List before registering as teams have changed.
Inservice registration is done on Solutionwhere. All staff must register on Solutionwhere. Please refer to Directions for Online Registration. All sessions should be online by August 1, 2009. In order to receive Act 48 credit or credit for inservice, you must register on Solutionwhere, sign in and out of the appropriate sessions, and fill out the appropriate evaluation forms. Failure to do so may result in an unlawful absence and loss of Act 48 hours. This also applies for the 20 hours of professional development required by IDEA 2004 and Chapter 14 for paraprofessionals.
For anyone requiring assistance with registration, the computer lab at the Intermediate Unit 1 Central Office will be available August 6 and 7, 2009, from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Please report to the front desk and you will be instructed where to go for registration assistance. You may also register at any of the service offices/campuses. Please bring a copy of your registration confirmation with you to inservice.
Parking
Sufficient parking is available at Canon-McMillan High School and at California University. Sessions at California University will be held at Duda, Keystone, and Eberly Halls only. Please refer to the campus map to assist with parking.

A general outline of the inservice schedule is available. Sign-in will take place in the classrooms where the sessions are located except for Friday, August 14, 2009, which will be in the lobby of Canon-McMillan High School.
Refreshments
Morning beverages (only) will be provided on each day of inservice, with the exception of Friday, August 14, 2009, which will include a light breakfast with beverages. Lunch will be on your own each day. A list of restaurants will be available.
