- Dragnifier: A freeware one-click magnifying glass that will let you view every pixel of your screen in detail. Developed by Ed Halley.
- Picasa: Picasa is a free software download from Google that helps you: Locate and organize all the photos on your computer; edit and add effects to your photos with a few simple clicks; share your photos with others through email, prints, and on the web. It's fast, easy and free.
- ArcExplorer - Java Education Edition (AEJEE): ArcExplorer - Java Education Edition was designed to provide an introductory-level desktop application that could handle basic GIS data and spatial processes on both Windows and Macintosh platforms. Because it was conceived with a K-12 education audience in mind, the tools address many of the basic tasks that students and teachers want to accomplish with GIS.
- CmapTools: The CmapTools program empowers users to construct, navigate, share and criticize knowledge models represented as concept maps. It allows users to, among many other features, construct their Cmaps in their personal computer, share them on servers (CmapServers) anywhere on the Internet, link their Cmaps to other Cmaps on servers, automatically create web pages of their concept maps on servers, edit their maps synchronously (at the same time) with other users on the Internet, and search the web for information relevant to a concept map.The CmapTools client is free for use by anybody, whether its use is commercial or non-commercial. In particular, schools and universities are encouraged to download it and install it in as many computers as desired, and students and teachers may make copies of it and install it at home.
- Audacity: A free sound editor.
- Teacher Classroom Timer: Use the Teacher Classroom Timer for the following activities, as well as hundreds of others: games, study sessions, projects, tests, homework, experiments, practice sessions, and classroom assignments. Teachers can enjoy this product free of charge.
- Zamzar: Free online file conversion - Zamzar supports conversion of files from links on the internet (URLs) as well as from your computer

Outline: How can community organizations partner with regional schools?
View a diagram of this outline
- VoIP
- Wireless Technology
- Mix of technologies - Vendor decision
- $6M questions
- Over 5 years
- E-Rate deadlines will be met
- School districts will save per Mb cost not overall cost
- RFP - build into contract to "buy-out"?
- Hopefully 10 - 15 SD initially
- E-Rate 1 470 filed on behalf of all SD; SD file their own 470
- Results of RFP will be known by Dec. for E-Rate
- Grant $ will cover: connectivity - build-out; distance education; equipment; community initiatives
- Business park - DCED $ to subsidize infrastructure together
- Look for other sources of $
- Administrative software
- Student performance
- Manufacturing $ - Cross-over link - Vo-Tech
- Ex. WACTC & Mon Valley
- Many ex. - telemedicine, etc.
- Collaboration technologies?
- Counting on vendors to coordinate collaboration
- Different models
- Best means?
- RFI will demo collaboration
- Physical rollout - West Greene
- How can vendors positively affect "homes"!
