Lending Library of Videos, CD-ROMs, Audiotapes, etc.
The Information Services Department of Intermediate Unit 1 has a wide range of materials available for loan through our lending library. Our collection contains approximately 5,000 videocassettes, CD-ROM programs, audiotapes, books, and laser discs.
We have an array of subject areas including: school safety, cooking, bullying, personal development, foreign language, professional development, psychology, drug prevention, entertainment, history, language arts, driver education, career videos, etc.
We are always looking for suggestions from our service area as to what you would find helpful for us to maintain in our collection. Pass your suggestions along to your school or public librarian or send an e-mail to us.
Borrowing from our Library
The Information Services Department at IU1 is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM (except for scheduled holidays).
A paper copy of our catalog has been sent to every building library in the IU1 area. Please ask your librarian to see a copy of it. Also, we are adding items all the time. To see recent additions to our library please click here.
Our circulation period is for three weeks from the date of delivery. If you would like to extend your borrowing period, you must contact Barb Matola at 724-938-3241 ext. 241.

You can also search our catalog online at http://www.iu1.org . Click on "Media Library" along the left side of the page. You can search by Title, Author, Subject, Series, Keyword, etc. You can email your request to us by following the instructions or by calling 724-938-3241 ext. 241.

Click on the following URL: http://accesspa.state.pa.us to get to Access Pennsylvania.
Directions to search the Access Pennsylvania Database for Intermediate Unit 1 materials:
- At the "Welcome to the Access Pennsylvania Database", single click on the top button that reads "Begin Your Search." A map of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will appear.
- If this is the first time you've used Access PA, take a moment to click on "How to Search" and read the directions. When you are ready to proceed click the IU1 shaded area on the map, anywhere within Fayette, Greene, and Washington counties.
- Single click on "Specialized Libraries."
- Find the pop-up menu that reads "Select a Library" and single click on the arrows.
- A menu of specialized libraries in the area will appear. Select "IMS."
- Type a search word in any of the categories on the left and then single click on "Begin Search." Any items in the IMS collection that match your search term will be found. Click on "Help" on the right side of the screen if you want advice on keyword searching.
- After locating the item you are interested in ask your school or public librarian to contact us via Interlibrary Loan.
PBS Video Database
Intermediate Unit 1 and PBS Video have formed a partnership to make available the "PBS Video database of America's History and Culture" for all districts served by IU 1. Visit the PBS VideoDatabase web site for information on creating your own free account to utilize this resource.
To register for your own website account:
- Log-on using this URL: http://pbsvideodb.pbs.org.
- Click on the word "Register".
- Enter your username (i.e. joesmith): lower-case letters, no spaces.
- Enter personal information, including your own e-mail address.
- Enter the Subscriber's ID Number. IU1's ID is i4829g315a
- Enter Academic Area preferences and Grade Range Areas (optional)
- Click on SUBMIT
PBS Video will immediately send you an e-mail that contains your own personal password. You need to access your e-mail to find out your password. The next time you log-on, bookmark the main page, click on "Login," and log in using your username and the password given to you by PBS Video, and then click on "My Account." You can then change your password to something more memorable.
Weekly Delivery Services
Information Services provides a daily delivery service to all of the public school districts and vocational schools in the three county area of Washington, Greene, and Fayette. Delivery and pick up for non public schools is scheduled by calling Barbara Matola at 724-938-3241 ext. 241.
Each school district has one central drop-off and pick-up point only. If you are unsure of the central location for your district contact your building administrator or review the chart below. Information Services is unable to stop at alternate locations.
Anything that you need to have picked up needs to be at the pick up location the day before, so that it is ready for our driver when he arrives in the morning.
Inter-Library Delivery Service: IDS - Returns Only
This service is provided as a part of Access PA. It can only be utilized by IDS members.
This service is facilitated by the school librarian wherein an item being returned to a library through the inter-library delivery service, is returned to the Intermediate Unit I Information Service by our daily pick up service.
All users must be an IDS member or the item will be returned to your school the following week. Please make sure that the packages have the correct address and the recipient's IDS number.
