21st Century Classroom Technology for Non-Technical Educators Part 1 Out-of-Class Assignment
Participants will develop an action plan on how they plan to incorporate the technologies and strategies presented in this course into their actual classrooms. The plan must include the creation of at least one differentiated Pennsylvania State Standards based lesson plan using the curriculum framework found on the Learning Nexus of the Pennsylvania EdHub. This lesson plan must include 1 Microsoft Word document, 1 concept from an Internet search, 1 still digital image, and 1 video clip and also integrate at least two content areas (for example social studies and mathematics).
Lesson Plan Criteria
Lesson Components:
- Lesson Objectives: What Students are to be able to do in measurable terms - Standard categories, statements and anchors should be listed next to each objective
- Anticipatory Set (Lesson Introduction/Motivation/ Rationale/Purpose/Value of the Lesson)
- Procedures (Activities listed in sequence including accessing prior knowledge of students)
- Instructional Strategies/Learning Modalities/Multiple Intelligences/Adaptations/Meeting Other Diversity Needs of Students
- Checking for Understanding (Throughout the Lesson: How and when will the teacher determine whether students are understanding and achieving the objectives)
- Guided Practice (How and when will students practice the new knowledge and skills)
- Closure (How and when will the teacher or students make the final summary/review of the main points of the lesson and complete the final in-class checking for understanding on whether or not students achieved the lesson objectives)
- Assessments are identified and explained.
- Scoring guides are included. Traditional assessments are included when possible.
- Materials are listed.
- The name of the participant, grade level, subject area, and lesson topic are listed.
- Websites are listed if appropriate.

- All of the lesson plan components and participant information is included.
- The title is extremely relevant to the lesson plan and may be creative or humorous.
- The standard category(s) and the standard statement(s)/anchors are correctly aligned with the lesson objectives.
- The content objectives are all measurable and include some higher order verbs.
- All of the lesson procedures are listed clearly, in sequence, and with essential details. The activities if completed will lead to student achievement of the lesson's objectives.
- All the instructional strategies are aligned to the objectives. A variety of strategies are included to meet the needs of learners. Appropriate adaptations are included as needed.
- All of the assessments are aligned with the objectives. Copies of the scoring guides for performance assessments are included. Copies of other assessments are included if appropriate.
- The closure revisits the important points of the lesson, is well explained, is composed of appropriate questions, and includes student reflection/participation.
- All the essential materials and resources are listed. Web sites are listed if appropriate.
- The lesson is completed on a word processor. Spelling, grammar, format, or organization of the lesson does not detract from the reading and understanding of the lesson.
