Information Services

Significant changes have taken place in our department over the last several years. In July 2005, we launched our Regional Wide Area Network (RWAN), which eventually connected 28 school entities and schools in the IU1 region. In 2006, we introduced the concept of virtual field trips via videoconferencing to our schools through one of the largest consortium purchases of videoconferencing equipment in the state. In November 2007 we welcome a new Director, Steve Smolenski. In 2008, the Data Processing department joined our team as well. This means that now just one department is responsible for all internal and external technology needs of IU1. In 2009, we introduced a videoconferencing bridge service to our districts.

Our department provides a variety of technology resources, services, and assistance to improve instruction and student achievement in area schools. These include networking services, technical support and repair, web design, data collection, internal applications and databases, technology implementation, distance learning, technology training, purchasing, and support services.
