Intermediate Unit 1 Celebrates Christmas in March
Coal Center: Yesterday at Intermediate Unit 1 (IU1) about 60 special needs students ate pizza against a background of Christmas carols, pine trees with red lights, and reindeer pictures. It was the annual "Christmas in March" celebration.
Every year, more than 2,000 preschool through secondary school students attending IUI programs enter the Annual Christmas Card Competition. Students design their own Christmas cards, which are displayed at IU1 throughout the month of December. IU1 employees and any interested district person vote for the card they like the best. Three winners are selected and one of the three winning cards becomes the IU1 Christmas card for the following year. In March, these three winning students bring their entire class to the IU for a "Christmas in March" pizza party and awards ceremony.
This year's winners are: Emma Edwards, Charleroi Child Alert from preschool-grade 2; Rachel Polen, Trinity West Elementary School from grades 3-6; and Felisha Sherman, Connellsville Junior High School East from grades 7-12. Congratulations to Emma, Rachel and Felisha!
